Becoming a Member

Experience the difference of personalised financial care by becoming a member of our credit union. As a member, you’ll enjoy better interest rates, and a commitment to community-focused service that puts your financial well-being first. Our not-for-profit structure means profits are reinvested into better rates, improved services, and dividends for you.

Becoming a member of Beragh Credit Union Ltd.

Membership of Beragh Credit Union is open to anyone who lives within our common bond. To become a member, it is necessary to complete a membership application form, which can be obtained at the Credit Union office or downloaded from the above links. The new member enters his/her own details and signs the form. Bring the form to the office along with his/her photographic ID & address verification, and when an entrance fee of £1.00 is paid, the new member may then open the account, putting a minimum of £5.00 into savings to begin. The law prohibits the credit union from opening an account for a new member unless satisfactory proof of identity and appropriate address verification documents are produced. (See list below)

What about security and confidentiality?

In order to protect the interests and secure the operation of the Credit Union, this Credit Union carries a Fidelity Bond for all staff and volunteers. Savings with Beragh Credit Union are 100% protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Nomination

All members are encouraged to complete a Nomination of Beneficiary form. This allows a member to specify the person or persons to whom they wish their property in the credit union to be transferred in the event of their death. It is important that all sections of the Nomination of Beneficiary form are fully completed. The present legal limit which may be nominated is £20,000. Your Nomination falls outside of your will so the proceeds will not be subject to a lengthy probate.

Points to note

  • If your Nominee(s) dies in your lifetime, your nomination is automatically revoked, and you may wish to update it accordingly.
  • If you have since married, divorced or separated it is up to you to update Nominee(s) information.
  • Making a new Nomination will revoke any previous nomination.
  • If you are concerned about your nomination, talk to a Staff member.
